Fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Completing the FAFSA each year is the first step in applying for any type of federal student aid. USAO also uses this application to determine eligibility for some school and state-specific aid. Submit the FAFSA as early as possible each new academic year to maximize aid resources and prepare for educational expenses.
