If you were to ask one of Oklahoma's newest teachers why they chose teaching, they would very likely say, “because I dream of a better world.”
Anyone who knows and enjoys their content area, has good people and communication skills, and has a commitment to our youth and our society, should seriously consider teaching. Perhaps you are that special person who will shape the future and make a difference in the lives of young people. The need for competent teachers with an understanding of today’s diverse students is vital.
A great teacher knows content and knows how to teach that content in ways that engage children and young people. He or she knows how to manage a classroom full of curious minds and knows how to assess learning, making adjustments as warranted. USAO offers the preparation needed to be one of those great teachers. The interdisciplinary approach to Liberal Arts found at USAO is the ideal foundation for any teacher. USAO’ nationally-accredited teacher education program offers teacher certification in the following areas: Art, Deaf Education, Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, English, Instrumental Music, Mathematics, Physical Education, Science, Social Studies, and Vocal Music.

Professional Licensure Disclosure
The federal government requires universities to disclose to out-of-state students if their programs are designed to meet their home state’s educational requirements a) for a specific license and b) is required for employment in an occupation (e.g. teacher certification, counseling, professional pilot, social work, etc.) or marketed or advertised to meet the education requirements. This allows the students to choose an institution that best fits their needs and goals for the future. These disclosures must be posted publicly and should be easily accessible to students. They should list states in three categories: a) meets requirements for licensure, b) does not meet requirements for licensure, and c) has not been determined if meets requirements for licensure.
While additional certification exams may be required in states other than Oklahoma to achieve certification, a B.S. in Elementary, Early Childhood and Deaf Education meets the requirements for professional licensure in the majority of states throughout the United States.
See USAO’s current determination regarding member states with reciprocity agreements with Oklahoma.
