USAO Ranked Among Most Selective Higher Education Institutions in Oklahoma
The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma has been named one of the most selective colleges in the state, according to a 2026 report published by higher education platform College Raptor.
With an acceptance rate of 65.8%, USAO ranked as the sixth hardest college to get into in Oklahoma, placing its selectivity ahead of larger institutions such as Oklahoma State University (75%) and the University of Oklahoma (76.6%).
The ranking underscores USAO’s commitment to academic rigor and its distinct role as Oklahoma’s only public liberal arts university.
"We work with students who really want to be here and get the type of education we offer," said Chloey Orosco, Senior Recruitment Coordinator at USAO. "We’re a liberal arts university – so our goal is for our students to be critical thinkers and well-rounded. We want them to be able to grasp concepts not only for their major, but understand how broader ideas affect their field."
In addition to its strong selectivity ranking, USAO earned national recognition in the 2026 Washington Monthly college guide, securing a spot in the top 100 Best Universities and Colleges in the South out of 900 evaluated institutions, as well as ranking among the top 625 colleges nationwide out of 3,000 schools.
While acceptance rate percentages can sometimes intimidate prospective applicants, university officials emphasize that selectivity at USAO goes hand in hand with personalized accessibility. The university employs a holistic admissions process that evaluates more than just standardized test scores and high school grade point averages.
"We have a holistic admissions process where we look at the clubs you were involved in, school activities, and volunteer work," Orosco said. "We also require an application essay that helps students show who they are. It allows us to select students who will not only fit academically, but also fit the culture of USAO."
USAO balances its selective admissions with dedicated student support, featuring a 13-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio that offers small, individualized classroom environments ranging from 30 students down to single digits.
"Don't let a percentage scare you," Orosco advised prospective students. "USAO is small and close-knit. Everyone here wants to see you succeed, and that comes with individualized attention in your classes from professors who really get to know you and your goals."
